Developmental psychologist and learning scientist
Rebecca Adler, Ph.D.
I recently earned my PhD in psychology at Vanderbilt University, where I worked with Dr. Bethany Rittle-Johnson in the Children's Learning Lab. I also collaborated with Dr. Cristina Zepeda in the Advancing Learning Lab. I earned my M.S. at Vanderbilt as part of my PhD training, and double majored in psychology and cognitive science at Northwestern University. Prior to graduate school, I studied reading comprehension and spatial cognition. Outside of work, I am in a choir and enjoy jigsaw puzzles, traveling, and cooking.
I am a developmental psychologist and learning scientist, with a focus on the learning and teaching of mathematics. In my research, I've explored the motivational, metacognitive, cognitive, and social aspects underlying mathematics learning. My work is mainly quantitative, though I have also conducted qualitative research.
My dissertation focused on the self-regulated studying of mathematics in college students. I am now working as a postdoctoral scholar at UCLA at the Los Angeles Education Research Institute, exploring student engagement and learning within a digital learning platform.
